The Sunken Glades is a location in Ori and the Blind Forest, the first non-prologue area that Ori can explore. Located somewhat near Swallow's Nest (the true first area), it is here that a weak and dying Ori is revived by the Spirit Tree's light. The Sunken Glades are a fairly important area because it gives players a chance to become familiar with Nibel while introducing them to the perils and collectibles hidden within. Major pieces of gameplay are explained here, such as the importance of finding Life Cells and Energy Cells, the "Helpful over time" Ability Tree and its branches are described completely, and Ancestral Trees (with their skills) are given meaning.

Ori and the Blind Forest/Definitive Edition[]

After their death and prompt resurrection, Ori takes their first few steps into the Sunken Glades beyond the Spirit Tree's shadow. The path that they will proceed to later is blocked by spiky bundles of thorns, which cannot be removed by Ori alone.

They will then be forced to venture further down into the Glades, where they will find Life Cells, Energy Cells, Spirit Light and defeat their first enemy (a Rammer) in a tunnel-like chamber. After leaving the tunnel, Ori will find a tiny light, abandoned and stagnant in a small patch of grass. When Ori picks it up, its strength returns and introduces itself as Sein, the light and eyes of the Spirit Tree. Sein offers its help to Ori on their journey, and from that point on acts as a weapon and guide to the spirit.

Sub-Area: Spirit Caverns[]

The Spirit Caverns is a sub-area of the Sunken Glades. It is a forested area with many roots and caves, creating a setting with a morning atmosphere. It is there that Ori learns about Ancestral Trees and absorbs the first skill: Wall Jump.

The locations of the items and secrets described below are based on game progress and skills learned.

  • Small Spirit Light Container 1 / Secret 1

Skills needed: none

Location: After passing through a dead tree and entering the Sunken Glades the first time, travel across the log and enter behind the roots at the end.

  • Energy Cell 1

Skills needed: none

Location: Jump across the pond through the underground.

  • Small Spirit Light Container 2 / Secret 2

Skills needed: none

Location: Go under the giant tree roots where you found Sein.

  • Keystone 1-1

Skills needed: none

Location: After eliminating the thorns, pull out the boulder from underneath and enter the small cave.

Location: From the top-right side of the pond, jump across the two hanging platforms to the other side.

  • Life Cell 1

Skills needed: none

Location: When you reach the sign post that point to Spirit Caverns and Hollow Grove (and Black Root Burrows if playing the Definitive Edition), go up-right towards Hollow Grove. Then, jump on top of the giant mushroom and jump to the other mushrooms on the left.

  • Keystone 2-1

Skills needed: none

Location: When entering Spirit Caverns for the first time, go down to where you see the first Map Stone and the item will be located to the right.

  • Energy Cell 2

Skills needed: Wall Jump

Location: Go to where you obtained the Wall Jump skill and wall-jump up to the left of the Ancestral Tree.

  • Small Spirit Light Container 3 / Secret 3

Skills needed: none

Location: From under the Rotating Spikes, enter the little cave in the very bottom.

  • Keystone 2-2

Skills needed: none

Location: After moving the boulder through the rotating spikes to the end of the path, climb on top of the boulder to reach the keystone.

  • Small Spirit Light Container 4

Skills needed: Wall Jump

Location: After passing the Rotating Spikes, wall jump up above the boulder.

  • Map Stone Fragment 1

Skills needed: none

Location: After activating the lever, jump across to the right. If from the bottom, wall jump up from the lowered, hanging log.

  • Keystone 3-1

Skills needed: Wall Jump

Location: After passing the first row of flower energy projectiles, wall jump up above the flower.

Skills needed: Wall Jump

Location: After passing the second row of flower energy projectiles, wall jump up above the flower to the left.

  • Secret 4

Skills needed: Wall Jump

Location: After passing the third row of flower energy projectiles, go up on top of the small platform and go behind the tree trunk.

  • Keystone 3-3

Skills needed: Wall Jump

Location: In the area with a lot of flower energy projectiles, go to the very top-left corner of the area. In the pit of thorns, wall jump from each side to get the keystone.

  • Keystone 3-4

Skills needed: Wall Jump

Location: In the area with a lot of flower energy projectiles, go in the cave located underneath the Spirit Gate.

  • Large Spirit Light Container 1

Skills needed: Wall Jump (and maybe Charge Flame)

Location: Near the Spirit Tree and in the hole destroyed by the frog enemy, go to the right just after entering the hole (if gone down to the left instead, use the Charge Flame to destroy the pillar and go to the right). Then, go down the tunnel to get the Spirit Light Container.

  • Ability Cell 1

Skills needed: Wall Jump

Location: At the pond near the entrance to Moon Grotto, open the energy gate using 4 energy points to obtain the ability cell.

Note: Getting this item requires the water to be clear.

  • Small Spirit Light Container 5 / Secret 5

Skills needed: Wall Jump

Location: At the pond near the entrance to Moon Grotto, land on top of the hanging platform and jump across to the rock cliff on the left and go through the rocks to reveal the secret and spirit light container.

  • Small Spirit Light Container 6

Skills needed: Kuro's Feather (Light Burst if playing the Definitive Edition)

Location: In the area where you start the game, use Kuro's Feather to float up to the right to reach the spirit light container (you can also use light burst to reach it in the Definitive Edition).

  • Large Spirit Light Container 2

Skills needed: none (Light Burst if playing the Definitive Edition)

Location: At the underground pond at the beginning of the game, swim down into a small cave. If playing the Definitive Edition, throw a light grenade at the torch found above the pond to open the barrier.

Note: Getting this item requires the water to be clear.

  • Ability Cell 2

Skills needed: Wall Jump (Light Burst if playing the Definitive Edition)

Location: At the Spirit Well near the beginning of the game, wall jump up to get the ability cell. In the Definitive Edition, it is in a different location. In the area where you first enter Sunken Glades, Light burst up to the upper section and throw a light grenade at the torch above the barrier blocking the ability cell.

  • Small Spirit Light Container 7

Skills needed: none

Location: The spirit light container is at the bottom of the lake near the first Spirit Gate.

Note: Getting this item requires the water to be clear.

  • Energy Cell 3

Skills needed: none

Location: At the bottom of the lake near the first Spirit Gate, there is a tunnel that you can swim through to get the energy cell.

  • Ability Cell 3

Skills needed: Bash

Location: In the area with the sign post and at the life cell above the sign post, bash off from the frog enemy to reach the upper portion of the area. Then, wall jump up to get the ability cell.

  • Large Spirit Light Container

Skills needed: Charge Jump (Light Burst if playing the Definitive Edition)

Location: Before going down to where Fil's Ancestral Tree is, charge jump up (or light burst up if in the Definitive Edition) to get the spirit light container located above.

  • Ability Cell 4 / Secret 6

Skills needed: Bash

Location: Go to the area containing the flower enemies. In the third row of the flower energy projectiles, use Bash on an energy projectile to boost up to get the ability cell.

  • Energy Cell 4

Skills needed: Wall Jump

Location: At the fourth secret area where it contains an energy gate, use 4 energy points to open the energy gate. Use the frog enemy to destroy the unstable ground. Push the boulder into the hole to block the laser beam. Continue pushing the boulder towards the laser beam until you reach the end and climb on top of the boulder to reach energy cell.

  • Ability Cell 5

Skills needed: Charge Jump (Light Burst if playing the Definitive Edition)

Location: In the area where the fourth energy cell is located, go to the right. Go through the thorny tunnel until you reach the top (in the Definitive Edition, you need to throw a light grenade at the torch located to the upper right corner of the tunnel to open the barrier. When you reach the pond, charge jump (or light burst) up to the small hanging platform. Then, bash across the hanging enemies to reach the ability cell.

It is possible to get the ability cell without using Charge Jump. When you reach the pond, double jump up to hit the hanging enemy with Spirit Flame to cause it to drop. When it drops, bash off from it to hit the second hanging enemy with Spirit Flame to cause it to drop. Then, bash off from it to reach the ability cell.

Trivia[]

  • Once Ori starts their jouney past the prologue, they cannot return to Swallows Nest. (Where Naru was seen sitting on the edge at the start.)
